lmaaaoo I use to be a moderator on here (by the handle “Mana”). I eventually quit after an administrator meeting where it became incredibly clear that no one really knew what they were talking about when it came to judging ‘skill level’. I can’t remember much, since it was like—six or seven years ago—but I remember one of the most ridiculous qualities they judged “skill level” by was how much detail an image had. If you produced an image with no background, or a very stark background, it was automatically a “beginner” work and belonged in the “1*” rooms. Likewise if you had a very stark/simplistic style.
Because loading a piece up with a shit ton of detail = quality work.

Maaaaan, I hate that mindset. I guess those guys never saw beginner artwork that’s loaded with so much detail it’s a confusing mess. Good art’s not just about packing on the detail, it’s knowing when to take it away.
I remember when I got to the point that I was allowed to draw in 2-star rooms on OC. About a year later the admin, MadHatter, went through and deleted several of my older drawings saying they were no longer up to standards. That was around the point where I went “fuck this place.”
